We’re looking for an Embedded Software Engineer - Robotics and Drones to join the Avular Team!
At Avular, we are looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic senior software engineer to strengthen our current team. Here you will work on developing and productizing software components for our modular robotics platforms. In this role, you will make sure that our control and algorithmic engineers can use our products with ROS to create more advanced features. So, you will become the bridge between our hardware and higher-level software engineers or control engineers.
🚀 YOUR MISSION
Avular designs and builds modular robotics platforms from the ground up. You will build and productise the onboard software for our driving robots, as well as co-develop the architecture it sits in. Your work is what allows our control and algorithm engineers to build higher-level autonomy on top, via ROS.
Design and build onboard applications in C++, with Python where it fits
Co-develop the software architecture — interfaces, structure, and how components fit together
Define and write requirements for new functionality
Work close to the hardware, including firmware where the role calls for it
Build the automated tests and documentation that make a feature genuinely done
Collaborate directly with hardware, control and algorithm engineers
⚡ WHO YOU ARE
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Embedded Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
Typically 2–6 years of professional embedded software development experience.
Strong programming skills in C and C++, with experience developing software close to the hardware.
Hands-on experience with STM32 and/or ARM Cortex microcontrollers or comparable MCU platforms.
Experience developing and debugging firmware, including communication interfaces and peripheral drivers.
Understanding of common embedded interfaces and protocols such as CAN, SPI, I²C, UART, GPIO, and Ethernet.
Experience with embedded debugging tools and techniques, including hardware debuggers, logic analysers, and oscilloscopes.
Experience developing software for Linux-based embedded systems.
Familiarity with modern C++ (C++17+), Python, CMake, and Git.
Comfortable working across the boundary between hardware, firmware, Linux, and higher-level robotic software.
Nice-to-haves:
Experience with Linux kernel development and device drivers.
Experience with NVIDIA Jetson platforms, ARM64 Linux, and NVIDIA's Ubuntu-based software stack.
Experience developing or integrating camera drivers, image sensors, or other high-bandwidth peripherals.
Experience with DroneCAN and CAN-based distributed embedded systems.
Experience with FreeRTOS or another real-time operating system.
Strong understanding of the Linux OS stack, including kernel, device tree, boot process, drivers, system services, permissions, networking, and hardware interfaces.
Experience with ROS2 and integrating embedded devices into robotic systems.
Experience with embedded Linux build/deployment workflows, and CI/CD.
Experience developing software for drone payloads, sensors, or actuators.
