Location: Eindhoven (Strijp-T) | Hours: 40 hours per week | Employment type: Direct employment
We're looking for a UAV Control & Planning Engineer to join the Control team!
You'll develop algorithms for control, state estimation, and trajectory planning that power our flying robots. Beyond your own work, you bring a deep understanding of how flying robots behave. This helps the wider team catch issues before they arise and strengthens the quality of decisions made throughout the development process. Your work will directly improve the robustness, performance, and autonomy of our flying robots.
🚀 YOUR MISSION
Develop and maintain functionality related to localisation, planning, and control running on the robot's microcontroller and on-board Linux computer.
Act as a sounding board for the control team, sharing your understanding of UAV dynamics and flagging potential issues early.
Work on core product development and create custom solutions to meet unique customer needs.
Collaborate with other control engineers and align your approach with system architects.
Document your approach and results, and test your software against specified requirements.
Analyse log files and ROS bags to evaluate performance and perform root cause analysis on reported issues.
Contribute to the technical roadmap and support junior engineers.
⚡ WHO YOU ARE
You have a Master's degree or PhD in Robotics, Control Systems, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
You preferably bring 3+ years of professional experience with flying robotics or control systems, and have a strong intuitive and analytical understanding of UAV dynamics.
You have strong analytical skills and an algorithmic mindset, with experience in model-based control, dealing with model uncertainties, and state or disturbance estimation.
You have experience with optimisation and/or sampling-based path planning methods respecting kinematic/dynamic constraints.
You have deployed such solutions on real hardware and validated their performance in practice.
You have experience with ROS2, C++, MATLAB/Simulink, Linux and Git.
You are familiar with working in larger software projects, including managing dependencies, versioning, releases and system deployment.
You communicate clearly in spoken and written English.
We also welcome complementary experience with docker, unit and integration testing, CI/CD workflows, or working in agile teams with tools like Jira and Confluence. These are useful additions, not prerequisites.
